The Speaking module takes about 15 minutes for two candidates, with 15 minutes of individual preparation. The aim is not a memorised script but clear, sustained interaction with a partner.

The three tasks

TaskWhat you doFocus
1Plan an activity with a partnerSuggest, negotiate and respond
2Choose and present a topicStructure, experience, opinion and reasons
3Discuss both presentationsAsk and answer questions

Use preparation well

  • Write keywords, not a full script.
  • Build the talk as opening, example, opinion and conclusion.
  • Practise accepting, declining and offering alternatives.
  • Dictionaries and phones are not allowed.

What matters in assessment

Task achievement, vocabulary and structures, pronunciation and fluency all matter. A long monologue does not replace interaction.
