Accessible telc B1 Examinations: How to Request Adjustments

telc offers individually appropriate and as far as possible standardised conditions for candidates with disabilities. An adjustment must be approved in writing before the examination; evidence submitted during or after the exam cannot be approved retrospectively.
How the application works
Candidates register through a licensed examination centre rather than directly with telc. The centre submits the online accessibility request and, after approval, registers the examination separately.
Special arrangements need longer lead times than ordinary booking. telc explicitly states that special deadlines apply, so do not wait until the final weeks.
What evidence is required?
The centre must submit a meaningful medical certificate or equivalent evidence for each case. If a severe-disability card is used, it must be valid on examination day.
Useful evidence explains the functional impact on the examination, not just a diagnosis. telc determines the approved solution and there is no automatic entitlement to the exact adjustment requested.
Possible adjustments
The current guidelines mention aids such as manual magnifiers, screen magnification devices or headphones, as well as organisational or timing changes and, where justified, excluding one subtest.
If one subtest cannot be taken, the overall score may be extrapolated from the average of the others and a full certificate can be issued. If more than one subtest is excluded, only a result notification for the completed subtests is issued.
Get written confirmation before the exam
A centre cannot apply an arrangement outside telc's written approval on its own initiative. Approval applies only to the registered examination; changes may require a new application.
Ask the centre to confirm the approved conditions, examination date, responsibility for aids and arrival time in writing.
