telc B1 Speaking Samples: Getting to Know Each Other, Topic Talk and Planning
Last updated: 4 October 2026 · Verified against official telc sources
The dialogues below are samples written by Zertifly; they are not taken from the official telc mock exam. The telc B1 oral exam is taken in pairs: 20 minutes’ preparation and about 15 minutes’ exam. According to the official mock exam, part 1 is worth up to 15 points and parts 2 and 3 up to 30 each; you need at least 45 oral points.
Part 1 – getting to know each other (sample)
A: Hallo, ich heiße Leyla. Und wie heißt du? – B: Ich bin Marco. – A: Ich wohne mit meiner Schwester zusammen. Was machst du beruflich?
- The prompts on the sheet (name, origin, home, German, job) are covered through questions and answers.
- Both candidates ask questions; it is not a one-sided interview.
Part 2 – talking about a topic (sample)
– A: Ich verstehe beide. – A: Das stimmt.
- Each candidate reports the opinion on their own sheet.
- A discussion with personal views and experience follows.
Part 3 – planning together (sample)
– A: Gut. Und wo? – B: Im Stadtpark, da gibt es Tische. – A: Prima. Was bringen wir mit? Ich kann Salat machen. – B: Dann kaufe ich die Getränke. Und wer bezahlt das Grillfleisch? – A: Vielleicht zahlt jeder fünf Euro. – B: Einverstanden.
- List points such as time, place, food and drinks and costs are decided one by one.
- A rain plan is added.
telc expects candidates to talk naturally with each other, not with the examiners; don’t memorise the dialogues.
