Moving from B1 to B2 is more than adding vocabulary. The telc B2 handbook expects greater fluency, appropriacy, coherence and accuracy, more complex and abstract material, and harder tasks such as negotiation and problem-solving.

Diagnose the gap
- Take the same skill from official B1 and B2 mocks back to back.
- Where B1 succeeds and B2 fails, code vocabulary, syntax, inference, time or instruction.
- Review a B2 email for three content points, connector range and meaning-blocking errors.
- Mark sustained speech, reasons, partner response and compromise in a recording.
A 12-week route
- Weeks 1–4: repair B1 gaps while adding short daily B2 input.
- 5–8: task-type Reading/Listening plus two Writing and two Speaking sessions weekly.
- 9–10: focus on the weakest two criteria and redo outputs.
- 11–12: two full B2 simulations, repair and exam-day rehearsal.
A B1 certificate does not automatically mean B2 exam readiness. Let current performance, not elapsed time, decide.
