Was mich (24) ______ überrascht hat: Hier wird viel weniger Wert auf Hierarchien gelegt als in meiner alten Firma. Natürlich vermisse ich manchmal das ruhige Leben in Freiburg, aber ich habe mich schneller eingelebt, als ich (25) ______ hätte.

Nun zu deiner Frage: Natürlich kannst du mich im November besuchen! Ich freue mich schon sehr (26) ______, dir die Stadt zu zeigen. Reparieren statt wegwerfen

Answer key – Part 1

ItemAnswerWhy
21c) dassso viel …, dass … expresses a consequence.
22b) dochdoch joins two main clauses and keeps verb-second; obwohl needs the verb at the end, trotz is a preposition.
23a) derenGenitive relative pronoun for a feminine noun (die Teamleiterin): auf deren Unterstützung.
24b) am meistenam meisten is the superlative of viel used as an adverb; meisten without am is impossible here, and die meisten means ‘most people or things’.
25c) gedachtPast Konjunktiv II: als ich gedacht hätte (hätte + past participle).
26b) daraufsich freuen auf refers to a future event – showing the city during the visit.
27a) demA location after auf takes the dative: auf dem Sofa schlafen.
28c) ababholen is separable; the prefix ab goes to the end of the clause.
29c) welchesdas Wochenende is neuter and the subject of passt: welches Wochenende.
30a) habenThe fixed collocation is eine tolle Zeit haben.

Answer key – Part 2

ItemAnswerWhy
31b) ALTERNATIVEeine Alternative dazu bieten: only Alternative gives a solution instead of throwing things away.
32l) VERFÜGUNGFixed phrase: etwas zur Verfügung stellen.
33i) KOSTENLOSThe help costs nothing; a donation is voluntary.
34m) VERMEIDENAbfall vermeiden means producing less waste.
35j) ROLLEFixed phrase: eine wichtige Rolle spielen.
36f) ERHÄLTLICHschwer erhältlich means hard to get.
37h) INZWISCHENinzwischen means ‘by now’: politics has discovered the topic in the meantime.
38n) VERPFLICHTETverpflichtet werden, etwas zu tun = to be obliged to do something.
39e) BEZWEIFELNbezweifeln, ob … = to doubt whether …
40k) UMGANGder Umgang mit etwas = the way you deal with something.

Why the five leftover words don’t fit

  • ABSICHT – you cannot ‘offer an intention’ as an alternative, and in gap 40 the masculine ending of bewusster rules out the feminine Absicht.
  • ANSPRUCH – it belongs in in Anspruch nehmen or Anspruch auf; neither zur Anspruch nor ein bewusster Anspruch mit works.
  • BEDINGUNG – a condition is not an alternative to throwing things away, and you don’t ‘play’ a condition.
  • ERWARTEN – erwarten cannot introduce an ob-clause, so it cannot replace bezweifeln in gap 39.
  • VERSCHWENDEN – you waste resources, not waste: Abfall verschwenden makes no sense.

Correct answersPointsWhat it means

1624Strong – review the two types of mistakes you made
1218Borderline – drill relative pronouns, connectors and collocations

Sprachbausteine has no pass mark of its own; its points count towards the written exam, which you pass with 135 of 225 points.

Tactics for B2 Sprachbausteine

  • Read the email once for meaning; telc’s tips suggest filling a gap yourself before reading the options – but only if you know the answer at once.
  • When two options look alike, decide by gender, number and case (dessen/deren, dem/den).
  • Watch the verb position: a verb at the end signals a subordinating conjunction or a relative clause.
  • In Part 2 judge the words by meaning and collocation (zur Verfügung stellen, eine Rolle spielen); the forms already fit.
  • Cross off used words, remember that five remain, and never leave a gap empty.
