The Speaking section of the digital TestDaF takes about 35 minutes and consists of seven tasks. Each task has a fixed speaking time and your answer is recorded on the computer. Phrases that fit the task type are the fastest way to give a structured answer in that time.

General phrases for structure

Using phrases well
- Identify the task verb first: advice, comparison or criticism?
- Fill each phrase with content; repeated chunks fill time but don’t complete the task.
- In the 45-second “Rat geben” skip long openings: one piece of advice, a reason and a concrete step are enough.
- Record yourself against the clock and note pauses and unfinished sentences.
