There is no preparation time in the Goethe A2 speaking exam: you get the cards in the exam and speak straight away. So it helps a lot to see beforehand what kind of answer each part expects. This page gives three original model answers written to the task format of the official 2025 model exam and explains which assessment criterion each one meets.

Part 1: questions and answers with cards

– A: Ja, ich gehe zweimal pro Woche schwimmen.

  • Each question comes straight from the card's keyword and is a short, correct W- or yes/no question.
  • Answers add a small extra detail (age, city, frequency) rather than a single word.
  • Questions use du; your partner is a fellow candidate.

Part 2: talking about yourself

Karte „Wie wohnen Sie?“ (Wohnung oder Haus? – Zimmer? – Nachbarn?

  • Each of the four prompts gets at least one sentence.
  • Connectors such as deshalb, aber and das finde ich schön make the talk coherent.
  • Numbers and concrete details (third floor, 650 euros, ten minutes) make it convincing.

Part 3: finding a time together

– A: Ja, 17 Uhr passt mir gut. Backen wir bei mir? Ich habe einen großen Ofen. – B: Gute Idee. Dann bringe ich Eier und Butter mit. Also, Freitag um 17 Uhr bei dir!

  • Every refusal comes with a reason, which shows interaction.
  • Counter-suggestions (Und um 16 Uhr? Was ist mit 17 Uhr?) move the conversation on.
  • At the end, day, time and place are summed up together.

These samples are not official; Zertifly wrote them to the official task format. Instead of memorising them, fill the structure with your own information.

Assessment criteria

  • Task completion: are language function, interaction and register right for the situation and partner?
  • Range and accuracy: are vocabulary and structures varied enough, and do mistakes affect understanding?
  • Pronunciation: do intonation, stress and sounds affect understanding?
  • If task completion is rated E (0), that part scores 0 in total.
