Goethe B1 Study Plan: 4-Week and 8-Week Programmes
Last updated: 30 September 2026 · Verified against current official Goethe-Institut sources
Goethe B1 is modular: each of the four modules is passed separately at 60 points. A good plan therefore measures the risk in each module and shifts time to the weakest one instead of studying general German. The programmes below follow the task structure of the official model exam.
8-week programme
| Week | Focus | Concrete task |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Baseline | Take the model exam under time; score each module out of 100 |
| 2 | Reading parts 1–3 | One part a day; log errors with a cause code |
| 3 | Reading parts 4–5 + vocabulary | Yes/no and rules texts; 30–40 Wortliste entries a day |
| 4 | Listening | Weight the single-hearing parts 2 and 3 |
| 5 | Writing | Write the three tasks in 20/25/15 minutes; check against criteria |
| 6 | Speaking | Planning with a partner, 5-slide presentation, feedback and question |
| 7 | Weakest module | 50% of the week on the lowest-scoring module |
| 8 | Rehearsal | Full mock with a different set; rehearse transfer and timing |
4-week fast track
- Week 1: full baseline + identify the two weakest modules.
- Week 2: weak module 1 (60–90 min a day) + short maintenance of the rest.
- Week 3: weak module 2 + one Writing task every day.
- Week 4: full mock with a different set, Speaking rehearsal with a partner, a rest day.
Suggested daily routine
- 15 min vocabulary (Wortliste + error log).
- 30 min of tasks in the module of the day.
- 15 min error analysis: cause code and the correct solution path.
- Twice a week, a 10-minute spoken recording.
Timelines vary; if you are not close to B1 yet, complete the level with a course or coursebook first.
