The Goethe B2 Listening module lasts about 40 minutes and contains 30 items. The single most useful fact for preparation is which parts are played only once, because that is where most points are lost.
Structure of the four parts

Task types part by part
- Part 1: each of the five short texts carries two tasks — first a true/false item on the main message, then a three-option item on a detail.
- Part 2: a formal-register radio interview with six multiple-choice items that follow the order of the text.
- Part 3: a host and two guests talk, and six statements are assigned to the speakers.
- Part 4: a monologue lecture with eight multiple-choice items; you get 90 seconds to read the tasks.
Part 1 demands global and selective listening at once; focusing on the detail usually yields the main message by itself.
Scoring and time management
Each of the 30 items is one checkpoint; the total is multiplied by 3.33 and rounded. 18 correct answers equal 60 points, the pass mark.
- Reformulate the options in your own words before listening so you have already thought of the synonyms.
- Read the options in comparison rather than one by one — the difference often sits in a single detail.
- Wait until a speaker has finished before deciding; at B2 people frequently correct themselves.
- Never stall on something you missed; stopping there costs you the points in the following sentences.
