Digital, Hybrid or Paper telc B1: What Changes?
Last updated: August 2026 · 8 min read
All three formats use the same telc Deutsch B1 content and recognition. The difference is how the examination is delivered, not where: a digital telc B1 is still taken at a licensed centre, not from home.
The three formats side by side
| Format | Written exam | Oral exam |
|---|---|---|
| Paper | Paper at the centre | Face to face at the centre |
| Hybrid | Paper at the centre | At the centre; examiners online |
| Digital | Computer at the centre | At the centre; examiners online |
Do content and recognition change?
telc states that digital and hybrid exams are equal in content and recognition; only their administration differs. The B1 product page confirms that all three formats are available.
The format does not change the target level or certificate. Confirm the exact format and date on your centre's booking document.
Can you take digital telc B1 at home?
No. You complete the written exam on a computer at a licensed examination centre. Examiners may join the oral exam through conference software.
telc REMOTE TESTS taken from home are a separate product. The current learner FAQ says remote options are limited to B2.
How to choose
- Consider digital if you read and type comfortably on screen.
- Choose paper or hybrid if your strongest workflow uses handwritten marking and notes.
- Ask the centre for format-specific familiarisation material; the content is equivalent but the interaction differs.
