telc Deutsch B1 vs telc Deutsch A2·B1

Despite their similar names, these are different exams. telc Deutsch B1 tests B1 only; telc Deutsch A2·B1 combines tasks at both levels and can award A2 or B1 according to performance.

Is the A2 result a safety net?
A2·B1 is scaled, so every part contains tasks at both levels. If B1 is not reached but performance meets A2, an A2 certificate may be issued.
The single-level B1 does not issue a lower A2 certificate. You must pass its written and oral main parts separately.
Why the tasks are not interchangeable
A2·B1 includes integrated Reading and Writing and Listening and Writing tasks, plus a short separate writing section. The classic B1 has a distinct Sprachbausteine subtest and a 30-minute email.
Always check the exact exam name on preparation material.
Which should you choose?
- Consider single-level B1 if you are securely at B1 and value partial retakes.
- Consider A2·B1 if documenting A2 would still be useful.
- Ask the receiving authority to confirm the exact accepted exam in writing.
