Your telc B1 writing score is not one teacher's personal impression. According to the official mock, every script is rated by two telc-licensed raters; the second confirms or modifies the first.

The rating chain

StageWhat happens?
First ratingA–D assigned for three criteria
Second ratingConfirms or changes the first
Different ratingsThe second overrules the first
Final resulttelc calculates and reports all points

Rater licensing

The person rating the script must hold a valid telc rater licence covering that exam on the day of use.

A person who taught you in the six months before the exam may not rate your writing. This reduces conflicts of interest.

Centre or telc?

Current rules allow licensed raters to mark scripts for the centre or telc to provide paid central marking.

Only telc determines and announces the valid examination result. A centre cannot give a binding score immediately after the exam.

What this means for you

  • A practice score from a course teacher is not an official result.
  • Train the three criteria separately: task fulfilment, communicative design and formal accuracy.
  • A later paid result review is a separate process from routine second rating.
