Last updated: 4 October 2026 · Verified against official TestDaF-Institut sources
The digital TestDaF lasts about 190 minutes, and in none of the four sections can you go back to an earlier task. A mock in the real sequence therefore measures time and focus as much as content. The TestDaF-Institut offers registered candidates two free model tests in the participant portal.

Realistic rehearsal
- Take the sections in the order Reading → Listening → Writing → Speaking, on a computer.
- Don’t go back; finish each task and move on.
- In Writing, write at least 200 words for the argumentative text and about 100–150 for the graph summary.
- In Speaking, keep to the speaking times of the seven tasks (45 seconds to 2:30) and listen back to your recording.
After the mock
- Work out your accuracy by task type in Reading and Listening.
- Compare Writing and Speaking with the solutions and notes in the official sample tasks.
- If you ran out of time, note which task type cost it.
- Keep the second model test for measuring progress a few weeks later.
Some exam tasks may be trial items that don’t count; treat every task as real.
