Goethe A2 Study Plan: An 8-Week Preparation Program
Last updated: July 2026 · 6 min read
Goethe A2 tests four skills: Lesen, Hören, Schreiben, and Sprechen. A good plan rests on studying these four modules and vocabulary in a balanced way. Below is a realistic 8-week program assuming 5–7 hours per week; you can shorten or extend it to fit your level.
Weeks 1–2: Foundation and Vocabulary
Get familiar with the A2 exam structure and start vocabulary work. The official A2 Wortliste (~1,300 words) is your core target; learn nouns with their article. For details, see our A2 word list guide.
Weeks 3–4: Lesen and Hören
Focus on the question types of the reading and listening modules. Each module has four parts; practise scanning and reading the questions in advance.
- Study reading question types with our A2 Lesen guide.
- Learn which part is played how many times with our A2 Hören guide.
Weeks 5–6: Schreiben and Sprechen
Move to the productive skills. For writing, memorise SMS and email phrases; for speaking, memorise and rehearse ready-made phrases (Redemittel).
- Practise covering the three content points with our A2 Schreiben examples.
- Rehearse the paired speaking format with our A2 Sprechen guide.
Weeks 7–8: Mock Exam and Review
Do a full exam simulation: solve the modules with the exam timings (Lesen ~30, Hören ~30, Schreiben ~30, Sprechen ~15 min). Review weak modules and log your mistakes in a notebook. The pass threshold is at least 60 of 100 points in total.
