Connectors turn short A1 statements into a meaningful sequence. Goethe’s official inventory explicitly lists und, oder, aber, denn and dann. The first four join equal elements or main clauses; dann occupies the first position of the second clause and places the finite verb before the subject.

Common mistakes
- Sending the verb to the end after aber or denn.
- Keeping the subject before the verb after dann: dann ich gehe.
- Building an overlong und chain without punctuation.
- Using denn for sequence rather than a reason.
